Here at White Plains Dental, we understand that having a missing tooth is more than a hazard to your other teeth. It is a hazard to your smile. A dental crown blends in perfectly with your existing teeth, giving you back your brilliant smile quickly.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown covers your existing tooth or replaces it completely. They are made from porcelain and blend in perfectly with your other teeth. Well-constructed crowns blend in so well that nobody but you will know it isn’t natural.

Why Would I Need a Crown?

Teeth can become damaged in many ways. A crown is often suggested when a tooth is broken, has become decayed to the point that a filling isn’t practical, you have a tooth that is extremely crooked or missing, or you have had a root canal. In some cases, the dentist will try to strengthen a tooth that is there by putting a crown on it to keep the tooth from breaking.

How are Dental Crowns Placed?

If Dr. Poznyansky decides a dental crown is an appropriate treatment, any tooth left will be filed to allow room for the crown. The dentist will prepare the crown material and mold it over what is remaining. Once it dries, he will smooth it out and make sure it fits properly with the rest of your teeth in both color and size. A final gluing into place takes place to make sure the crown does not become loose and fall out. The dentist then gives it a final inspection to see how well it fits your other teeth.

Taking Care of Your Crown

Taking care of your new dental crown is as easy as taking proper care of your other teeth. Regular brushing will keep it looking nice. You may be cautioned about eating anything too hard in order to avoid chipping the new crown but that will be the only special precaution you need to take.
